Maintenance
Just as the professionals do, the success to
healthy grass is to have a program of correct proportions
of water, fertilizer and to cut the grass with a sharp blade
to a minimum height of 3 - 3.5 inches.
During seed germination, keep the soil and mulch damp or
moist using a sprinkler, oscillating or pulse type. On hot
days, light watering in the morning and evening for up to
10 minutes or more may be required. Any pooling or guttering
of water means your overdoing it. Once grass starts to appear,
don't cut back on the watering. Monitor the soil and mulch
for dampness and moisture. Once the grass obtains a height
of 3 - 3.5 inches, you can start mowing but never more than 1/3
of the grass. Keeping that 3 - 3.5 inches will help maintain
moisture and allow the grass to thicken. Fertilize with a
premium starter fertilizer after 6-7 weeks. This will strengthen
the root system and feed your newly established grass. Un-germinated
seed will still come up in the growing season when the conditions
are right.
For areas not irrigated,
we suggest hydroseeding with a more drought tolerant seed
blend available to us. You can still have that great looking,
healthy grass but it requires more time and patience when
relying on Mother Nature. This particular seed blend of grasses
once established, RETAINS ITS COLOR, requires NO WATERING
and mowing only ONCE A MONTH. Talk about saving water and
your hard earned $ dollars. And you thought hydroseeding
was only for the ditches! Seed blends have come a long way
and Enviro-Grow can help.
